While witnessing a family trapped in a burning building with no means of escape, Telephone repair worker Holly Lightman decides to rescue them by summoning up all the courage she can. She leads the entire family to safety but cannot escape the flames herself! The floor gives way underneath her and she is thrust downwards into the buildings basement. As she lies there, life slowly fades from her. At that instant, an anomaly in space causes Holly's immortal soul, which was en route to her final resting place, to return to her earthly body. A downed power cable falls onto her lifeless form and as her soul returns a strange reanimation occurs. Brought back to the land of the living with incredible powers, Holly now fights against all forms of injustice as Powerline.
